We have been seriously committed to enhance the energy efficiency of our facilities, and we are continuing to do so. In 2011, in front of an increase of 15% of hours worked, the power consumption was reduced by 1% compared to the previous year. An important result, in line with the objectives of reduction of 5% of consumption within 2013, set by the Environmental Management System. Staff trainings on environmental sustainability have also brought to the decrease of water consumption per capita.
From 2009 and onwards, the proportion of recycled waste has more than doubled. This is due to numerous activities undertaken to educate the staff, together with the selection of eco-friendly materials. Great attention is paid to disposal of dangerous substances and to correct separation of mixed packaging. We have also eliminated any toxic substance: none of our products contains lead, Rare Earth Materials, Pvc, deca BDE, mercury or arsenic.
In the last biennium SPEA’s investments to decrease emissions have been remarkable. The transition to latest-generation natural gas heating systems has resulted in a reduction of emissions by about 30%, with considerable economic savings. Also the fleet of cars has been involved in this important ecological operation.
You get the best results from the details. In SPEA each printer is programmed to print rear/front in economic mode. A simple trick that allows SPEA save tons of paper each year and hundreds of ink cartridges. Also the sheets that are printed on one side are not thrown away: we use them as notepads.
