SPEA Hosts ESRA Delegation

Visita ESRA-SPEA

Testing Excellence Serving Europe’s Chip Industry

Yesterday, SPEA hosted a delegation of over 50 representatives from the 31 European regions that are part of the ESRA (European Semiconductor Regions Alliance). The visit highlighted Piedmont’s key role in the European semiconductor landscape as the region is set to assume the presidency of ESRA.
With a solid industrial tradition and internationally recognized technological advancement, Piedmont is positioned to be at the center of European efforts to strengthen its semiconductor supply chain and technological sovereignty in 2025.

The delegation’s visit to SPEA underscored the company’s significant contribution to the Piedmontese semiconductor ecosystem. Production testing equipment plays a crucial role in the industry, verifying the quality and reliability of produced microchips. For Europe, strengthening its independence in microchip production means investing not only in machinery and plants for chip production itself but also in testing technologies, an often underestimated but strategic sector.

With a long history of innovation and a commitment to advanced technologies, SPEA represents a world-class example of excellence in the field.

ESRA delegates had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the heart of innovation, visiting some of SPEA’s departments. A journey to discover the most advanced technologies for the production testing of microchips, from integrated circuits to MEMS, power components, and assembled modules.

ESRA: Unity is strength for the European chip industry

The European Semiconductor Regions Alliance (ESRA) is a collaborative platform bringing together 31 European regions committed to advancing the semiconductor industry. Founded in September 2023, ESRA aims to amplify the voice of regional stakeholders and contribute to the development of robust semiconductor policies.

ESRA aims to empower European regions in shaping continental semiconductor policies, as outlined in the European Chips Act. By joining forces, these regions aim to strengthen Europe’s technological independence, stimulate economic growth, and create new job opportunities.

Alberto Cirio, President of the Piedmont Region, expressed his enthusiasm for the Alliance: “Joining ESRA is a strategic step for the Piedmont Region, as pooling our voices strengthens our influence in the semiconductor landscape. With market-leading companies and a world-class scientific research system, Piedmont is well positioned to take advantage of the opportunities opened up by the Chips Act. Working together strengthens our regional specializations, encourages investment and ultimately benefits Europe as a whole. I am honored to chair this initiative, and I will work to promote ESRA’s themes to other Italian regions to ensure that we all work together for a prosperous and secure future.”
